In what is being called “the spookiest lawsuit since Boo v. Pac-Man”, Luigi, brother of the famed plumber Mario, has filed legal action against SpecterVR, a cutting-edge virtual reality company known for its immersive horror simulations. Luigi alleges that the company’s latest “Haunted Mansion VR” game caused emotional distress, panic attacks, and an existential dread of ghosts—all violations of his personal safety and rights as a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom.
“I didn’t sign up to fight real-life fear inside my living room,” Luigi told UNN in a trembling statement. “I like ghosts the polite way… the way I can chase them with my Poltergust 3000, not scream into the void for three hours while wearing a headset!”
According to the filing, Luigi claims that SpecterVR’s AI-driven ghosts exhibited advanced “aggressive haunting patterns”, including targeting Luigi’s in-game avatar repeatedly, and “sentiently mocking” his famous green cap. He is seeking damages of $1.3 million coins (Mushroom Kingdom currency) and a full refund of all DLC expansions, including the “Phantom Piano Concert” pack.
Legal experts in Game Nexus say the case could have far-reaching implications:
SpecterVR issued a brief statement, defending its design choices:
“All our haunted entities are programmed for entertainment. Luigi’s reaction, while unfortunate, is technically ‘immersive experience compliance.’”
Meanwhile, Luigi’s social media accounts have exploded with memes, hashtags, and fan support. The trending #LuigiVsGhosts has been accompanied by viral videos of players attempting (and failing) to survive the mansion in VR without screaming like a Koopa under a Thwomp.
UNN has learned that the case will be heard at the Game Nexus Inter-Universal Court later this month. In the meantime, Luigi is reportedly training with Daisy Sunburst on virtual reality avoidance techniques and subscribing to meditation apps for plumbers under stress.
